Newness, Goodies and Futures 11/19/11

First, the newness. As you've probably noticed, we've been tweaking the design of our homepage.   It's a little cleaner, a little more modern and still has all the same great content.  What do you think?

Secondly, the goodies.  If you cruise on over to the Vault section you will notice that we've added a great program to our in-studio performance section.  Terry had an Afro-Pop show and it's a good listen.  We highly recommend checking that out.

Next, the futures. A little birdie has whispered in our collective ear that our old friend Patrick McGrath has formed a new group called Blue Coin.  They are going to be stopping by the studio and performing with us very soon.  STAY TUNED!

Hurricane Irene Strikes GAGA 9/6/11

Hurricane Irene didn't just wallop the east coast, it seemed to take direct aim at the Garnerville Arts Complex (GAGA) where Area 24 Radio is located.  Fortunately for us, our building was spared as it sits high atop the property on the street level.  The same cannot be said for many of the other buildings.  Many of our friends and colleagues in the complex were devastated.  Some buildings suffered structural damage, some suffered extensive flood damage and some suffered both.

We are very happy to report that we've finally been allowed to resume business-as-almost-normal.  There is still a curfew on the complex, so any shows that extend beyond 7pm will not air live until things get back to a more normal routine.  But our show schedule is largely unaffected, otherwise. Stay tuned.

Here are some photos of the damage:

UPDATE:  This event has been postponed.  Stay tuned for a new date and time.

We will welcome our old friend Patrick McGrath back to Studio Q for some live performance.  He'll be bringing with him Ashley Selett.  Seems these two have been gigging and writing together lately.  We're looking forward to hearing what they've been cooking up.

A24R OPEN HOUSE

We had a blast during our Open House weekend. The really cool arts complex where our studios are located hosted what they called "The GAGA Arts Festival" on April 30, May 1st.  It was a thrill to have people parading though our studio.   They danced, they looked around, they sifted through our vinyl and they snapped they fingers during the many live performances we had.  .

Head over to the VAULT page and check out some of the sounds from that weekend.  And keep your eyes peeled for the more great additions to our website coming soon.  As always, thanks for listening!! YOU ROCK.

Buy Patrick's EP at iTunes or Amazon

Patrick McGrath is a Bronx born/suburban transplant whose original music is rooted in the melodic storytelling of the quirky darker side of life with an occasionally comedic narrative. Over the past decade, Patrick has performed at various venues (Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Living Room, Maxwell's, Turning Point, etc) in and around the NYC area with a wide array of musicians and bands which included opening for Mike Doughty, They Might Be Giants and sharing the stage with American icon Pete Seeger. In 2004, Patrick recorded his first professional studio recording entitled "Chin Music" at The Space on the lower east side of Manhattan with producer/engineer Guy Benny and John Siket. After a brief hiatus, Patrick emerged in 2008 with a new found fervor and a finely tuned machine that turns scar tissue into art. With an arsenal of new material to choose from, Patrick went into the studio with acclaimed producer and session guitarist Eric "Roscoe" Ambel (Steve Earle, Joan Jett, Del Lords, etc) in the Spring of 2010 to record a 5 song EP at Cowboy Technical Services in Brooklyn, New York. The EP entitled "When Black Is Blue" features Roscoe on lead guitar, Randy Schrager (Scissor Sisters, Jesse Malin) on drums, Jared Engel (Five Deady Venoms, Calamity Janes) on electric and upright bass, Mary Lee Kortes (Mary Lee's Corvette) on harmony vocals, David Yannuzzi (FM Blanket) on lap steel and Rob Arthur (Peter Frampton, Leann Rimes) on Hammond organ. You are cordially invited to take a peak into the carnival mind and curious heart of Patrick McGrath as he puts his unique signature stamp on the NYC music scene and beyond!

7/18/10 Our First Live Concert Was a Success!

We couldn't be happier about our first live concert and remote broadcast.  The Communication Media Arts Dept.  at SUNY Rockland Community College was gracious enough to invite us in and let us test out their new sound stage setup.  Ed Croft and Greg Schettino walked in, opened up their guitar cases, stepped up to the mic's and poured out some great sounds.   We can't thank everyone who tuned in enough, for being a part of what we hope will be one of many more shows to come!  If you'd like to take a look at our photos from the event....have at it!  [By the way, the mp3 podcast of the performance is coming soon!]
